“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~2 Timothy 1:7

We can have a spirit of power if we so choose. Faith or fear, it’s a choice. Fear is a liar. Fear is the storm. Fear is the snake. Faith is our source of connection to Almighty God’s protection and love. The storms will come, the waves will try to overtake us, the winds will try to capsize us, and the snake will always be lying in the grass trying to bite us! But we must stay strong in our faith that Jesus is our source of power and protection, peace and strength.
"But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me! Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith, he said, why did you doubt?” ~Matthew 14:30-31 NIV
Both my husband and I pray daily for God’s hand of protection in all that we do. Jack’s a cross country truck driver and truly needs God’s assistance to keep him safe as he travels to and fro. I am home alone a great deal and also need God’s protection to keep me safe.

First thing this morning my husband sent me this picture of the truck that was parked next to him last night, along with a message that God is good. It was completely turned over by a huge wind gust from a big storm. That’s my husband’s truck to the right. It could have just as easily been his truck. As I gasped, I immediately thanked God for keeping Jack safe and also prayed for the owner of that truck.
I decided to wait to call him until after I took my dog out. As I walked along with Buddy, I continued talking to God about how safe I feel knowing He is always with us. We crossed the street and continued into a grassy area, where I almost stepped on a snake! It was laying in the grass, and I was only one short step away from stepping on it, but something made me look down at that very moment.
We got back home safe and sound, and I decided to start my computer to get going on next week’s blog post before I called Jack. As I opened my laptop, something went wrong, and it crashed. I didn’t panic, but neither did I pray. I started to reboot it, to no avail though, and this time it completely froze up!
I finally realized I was, once again, trying all on my own to solve my problems. I immediately said a prayer and then called Jack. I told him what had happened both with the snake as well as the computer. Wise man that he is, he replied “Guess who’s come to mess with us, babe? That snake, that’s who!”
Jack told me what to do to try to get the computer up again, but sadly it didn’t work. Then we joined, in spirit over the phone, for one of our many long-distance prayers. We prayed, in Jesus name, for assistance in getting this problem solved. I once again rebooted my computer and bam, it worked! He then said, now go to youtube and listen to this song and kick the devil right outa there. You need to let him know you are connected to the power of God and start praising the name of Jesus!
“Then Jesus said to him, away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” ~Matthew 4:10-11
The devil is always slithering in the grass. He’s always trying to mess us up. He knows he can’t get past the league of angels Jesus sends to protect us, so he has a temper tantrum. He causes storms. He huffs and puffs. He flips trucks, crashes computers and does everything in his power to get us to turn from God, and succumb to fear!
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” ~Isaiah 41:10
I will fear not! I will trust that God not only hears but answers prayers. I will continually pray and talk to our only source of power and peace. I have such peace in my heart knowing that the Creator of the universe is standing right next to me through every storm.
There will be storms! God warns us of this reality. So, I say, be prepared, and stay connected to our source of protection and power because Jesus has already overcome, and faith is our source of peace.
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” ~John 16:33
How can I stay connected to God . . . ?
Prayer—talking to Jesus nonstop is how we stay connected to God! I talk to Him while I'm driving, showering, walking the dog, even while I'm chopping carrots—because the devil will always get a busy signal if we never hang up on Jesus. We need to accept that Satan is always around but his days are numbered and he knows it. He also knows he has no power over us as long as we stay connected to Jesus, so just don't ever hang up!
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” ~2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Trouble won’t throw me; problems won’t shake me or break me. Fear can’t have power over me unless I give in to it. Like the words to the song says, “Fear must have thought I was faithless when it came for my heart.” Faith is fear repellent! Faith in God’s power is how we access God’s power! If we run to Jesus the moment we feel weak, the very moment we start to listen to the voice of fear, He will empower us to be strong in the knowledge that He is there fighting our battle for us.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” ~Ephesians 6:12
I know that there were angels around Jack’s truck protecting him that night. I also know He is keeping me safe throughout all of the storms in my life. I will hold tight to God and will not fear, no matter what the devil throws at me!
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” ~James 4:7-8
