“If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” ~1 Corinthians 3:17
Does God really care about our bodies? The answer is a great, big, yes! If the Holy Spirit of the Lord resides in us, we are the holy temple of God. And the Bible is very clear about how we should care for this “temple,” even down to the specifics of how we should eat and drink, meditate and pray!
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” ~3 John 1:2
Food to the human body is the equivalent of gas to a car. If the manufacturer of your car tells you to use only lead-free gasoline, but you decide to use diesel fuel instead, your car won’t function in the manner in which the manufacturer designed it to function. You will have all sorts of mechanical problems. Eventually, if you continue to put the wrong fuel in your car, it will stop working altogether.
However, if you drain all the fuel out, and flush the entire fuel system, maybe even replace a few parts, you should be able to get it working again. The same thing goes for our contaminated bodies.
God created our bodies and gave us an owner’s manual, better known as the Holy Bible, to tell us exactly what to eat, and what not to eat. He created us and knows specifically what are the best foods for optimal performance!
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” ~2 Corinthians 7:1
I’ve deviated from this owner’s manual for the majority of my life. Fortunately for me, I’ve had a great team of mechanics to repair most of the damages that this lifestyle caused. I am finally to the point where I’m more than willing to go 100% by the God-given manual in order to keep this body going as long and as well as possible.
I've spent the past ten years trying to reverse the damage I caused by putting the wrong fuel into my body. Little by little, not only through guidance from the written word but also the blessings of Almighty God, I’ve managed to clean out my system and recalibrate my entire engine.
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” ~1 Corinthians 10:31
We are to glorify God in our bodies—in our eating, drinking, exercising, breathing, and all of our doings. Yes, in everything we do— even in our spirits, in our thinking, meditating, planning and praying. We have to acknowledge the whole package here, we are not just a physical body, we are a spiritual being as well. God cares about our entire being, and His word is our only way to know His plan for us. We can not glorify God through disobedience to His word!
Food for Thought! ... (pun intended)
Certain diseases are considered to be genetic. However, bad genes aren't the sole reason these diseases are passed down through generations. Often times lifestyle habits are also passed down and are far more of a cause than bad genes.
Eating and drinking habits, as well as exercise, or lack of exercise are the real culprits. One of the biggest reason that obesity appears to run in certain families is that poor eating habits also run in these families as well. Poor exercise and eating habits are taught by our role models and therefore are inherited through their example.

My descendants were from a country that consumed large amounts of pastries, dumplings, and sausages, as well as lots of beer . . . all better known as refined sugars, bad fats, and fermented alcohol. Along with these lifestyle habits came a tendency to diabetes and heart disease. And not surprisingly, the relatives that chose to smoke were also the ones that developed most of the cancers as well. Now, I’m not saying that lifestyle choices are the only cause of these diseases, but they are enormous culprits. You better believe these factors will definitely tip the scales in favor of these undesirable outcomes.
”And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” ~Genesis 1:29
God had a plan, a plan that didn’t include killing and eating animals. It was only after the flood that God included eating meat, and then it was specific to “clean meats” only. Science has just recently caught up with what the Bible has said for thousands of years. Apparently, it’s recently been noted that the more fatty meats you eat, the higher the risk of contracting heart disease.
The following are the American Heart Association’s recommendations regarding the consumption of animal fats.
The American Heart Association recommends limiting saturated fats – which are found in butter, cheese, red meat, and other animal-based foods. Decades of sound science has proven it can raise your “bad” cholesterol and put you at higher risk for heart disease. March 24, 2017
For the first time ever, U.S. Federal Guidelines recommend a plant-based diet. Nutritional experts of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recommend a predominantly plant-based diet for health reasons.

And even now, in 2019, when lots of meat and fat are once again being promoted as supposedly “good for you” . . . beware! Cautiously think this through! The whole eat lots of animal fat was first promoted decades ago through the Atkins diet, and is currently being encouraged in several new fad diets, Palio and Keto being at the top of the list. The truth is that all this animal fat is simply not healthy! God is crystal clear on this command regarding eating the fat of animals, as well as His chosen diet for human beings!
“This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood.” ~Leviticus 3:17
If you think about eating pork bacon for example, not only is this against God’s dietary law of not ingesting an unclean meat, but it’s a double whammy as far as disobedience to the word of God, as He clearly tells us not to eat any animal fat, and of course not to consume the blood therein. We would never think of breaking the blood part of this law and drinking the blood of an animal, but somehow the eating of the fat law isn’t thought of in the same disgusting way.
“And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.” ~Luke 16:17
The day will arrive when we must choose who we will listen to, God or man, i/e the ever-changing secular world, or the never changing word of God. Society pretty much says the opposite of God on just about every subject, including food! Fads and styles are always changing, but the word of God will never change, the law of God is eternal!
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” ~Luke 21:33
For the most part, our forefathers served the gods of the secular world. It was a gradual transition, a very prolonged process away from the word of God and to the word of man. They were led astray and didn’t know the truth because they didn’t seek it out. We, on the other hand, can choose to dig deep into God’s word and learn His infallible truths. We then must finally choose whom we will serve. Who will you choose to obey?
“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” ~Joshua 24:14-15
