“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” ~1 John 5:3
Just like all the other rules that God gives us, dietary rules are no different in that they are for our own good! After all, He made our bodies so who would know better how to best fuel it?
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” ~Genesis 2:7

We are what we eat!
Our bodies are 100% organic! This means we are 100% biodegradable, given enough time we will completely decompose after we die. From the earth, we came, and to the earth, we will return.
“All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:20
With this knowledge, we must understand that eating organic, natural, living foods (i/e fresh picked fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds) is essential for nutrient absorption and ultimately good health. The fresher and more natural the foods that we eat, the better our bodies will work and the healthier we will become.
We are literally what we eat. Our bodies absorb the vitamins and minerals, as well as toxins and fats. Everything we ingest is processed and stored by our bodies, both good and bad. If we consume large quantities of fats and sugars, we will become overweight and risk organ damage. If we ingest highly toxic foods, referred to as “unclean animals” in the Bible, we will become sick and develop an array of illness and disease.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” ~Romans 12:1-2
It’s no coincidence that eating the wrong foods packed with artery-clogging cholesterol and unhealthy toxins will lead to health issues, but also foods loaded with excessive calories will ultimately cause these very same problems. This calorie overload can cause us to become overweight, increasing additional health risks like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancers and so on.
On the flip side is the fact the eating as God prescribes not only keeps us fit and trim, it increases our all-round good health and immunity, as well as an increased energy level. To say nothing of the clarity of mind and spirit it will also create. Communicating with God through prayer and meditation takes a certain degree of mental focus and spiritual clarity. Loading our bodies with toxins only creates brain-fog, and severely limits our ability to concentrate, which in turn impairs our connection to God.
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." ~1 Corinthians 6:19-20
God gave us a long list of what to eat, and, more importantly, what not to eat! This list can be found in Genesis, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy, but are additionally mentioned throughout the Bible. The book of Daniel speaks in detail of what a Godly diet consists of, and how Daniel’s words and actions demonstrated that he knew the Scriptures and wanted to obey the word of God, as well as the ultimate physical results of doing so.
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” ~Daniel 1:8
When Daniel was offered a meal that was incompatible with God’s dietary laws, he risked execution by requesting other foods. But God caused the official in charge of meals to give-in to Daniel's requests. Daniel and his friends ate only fruits and veggies and drank only water, and ultimately became stronger and healthier than any of the other prisoners. Like Daniel, we are to spend our lives learning and carrying out God’s rules—understanding they are for our own good!
“So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants. So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.” ~Daniel 1:11-16
The word fatter in the above verse isn’t referring to a measurement of body-fat, per se, but rather to the healthy physical condition of their bodies.
I have decided to follow Daniel in choosing God’s dietary plan over man’s. I now partake in a plant-based diet which consists of very little lean "clean" animal, some "clean" fish, and an occasional piece of organic chicken or egg. I am healthier than I have ever been before, and I no longer have to diet to maintain my weight. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
Following the word of God leads to improved health, that’s a fact. If we do what God tells us we will drastically improve every aspect of our lives. God’s rules and laws are for our good!
“And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day.” ~Deuteronomy 6:24
