“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” ~Joshua 1:8
God has rules to help us, not to restrict us. He wants us to be safe and protected by Him, to be happy, and healthy, to prosper and succeed in everything we do, and to enjoy this life to the fullest. In a nutshell, sticking to the word of God and obeying His rules will lead to a long and much easier life.
“Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life." ~Proverbs 4:10-13
God knows what’s best for us, He created us. He created science, and the laws of nature are His way of holding everything in the universe together. Yes, God created physics, and He also created our bodies, and He loves us so much that He tells us what’s best for us over and over in His holy word. He wants us to know what is good for us, as well as what will harm us. This is why He has rules, to help us, not to harm us.

We need this rule-roadmap because without it we will always wind up getting lost. Without God’s input, how can we know what to do or what not to do? Without this insight into His perfect plan for us, we could harm ourselves and those that we love—we would be at the mercy of a mercy-less advisory—without God’s rules, we’d be lost.
I, for one, am eternally grateful for the insight that the word of God has brought into my life. I now understand the reason for the rules, to help me live longer, healthier and happier!
Who wouldn't want that? We can’t just read the word of God and not do it, what purpose would that serve—what good would that do us? If we truly love God and trust that He has our best interest at heart, we must do what He tells us, we must be obedient to all of His commands.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” ~James 1:22-24
God loves us, He loves us so much that He couldn't leave us without a source of guidance—without a road map. How can we ever make it through this life full of winding roads without a map? God’s laws and commandments are His map to get us through this life. It is the instruction manual to living here on earth, and without God’s instruction, we would all surely die. Just think of it this way, the B.I.B.L.E. is our Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!
The following verses are vital to our health and well being. Read them with an open mind as to the reasons why God made these rules and how they are clearly for our benefit, and certainly not to harm or restrict us from the fullness of life.
“My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” ~Proverbs 4:20-22
&
“For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin. He shall die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray." ~Proverbs 5:21-23
We need instructions, we need guidance. We must learn to use this information to improve our lives rather than looking at God’s rules as a bunch of limitations. Satan is the one spreading that thought—that God doesn't want us to have fun—that He doesn't want us to enjoy this life! The following verse clearly dispels that lie!
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” ~John 10:10
The devil is a liar and a thief, he wants to steal our health and our happiness. He wants us sick and angry. He wants us to doubt the word of God regarding everything.
Jesus came to free us from the bondage to these physical cravings and lusts. When we do the things that God tells us not to do, we open the door for Satan to attack us. Any contradiction to, or compromise of, the commands of God are evil and come from the devil.

“How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul.” ~Proverbs 16:16-17
If we choose to deviate from the road map God gave us, we will get lost. If we decide to find our own way rather than staying on the highway God has for us, we will wind up taking a detour from what God ultimately wants for us. If we choose to defy Him, we will pay the consequence.
Jesus always kept all of the laws and commandments of God. He clearly stated this when He said in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” Even though some people mistake this by thinking that fulfill meant to complete or abolish, what Jesus said next in verses 5:18 & 19 clearly shows that this wasn’t the case. “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Neither heaven nor earth have passed away yet!
We are empowered by Jesus, through His power-filled indwelling Spirit, to resist the devil’s temptations to go against the commands of God. Yes, we are absolutely forgiven for our sins, for all those times that we fell short. But now we need to turn from our old ways and repent and lean on Him to walk as He walked. We all need the instructions of the word of God to guide us through this life, as well as lead us to Jesus, our only source of eternal salvation.
“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” ~Romans 10:4
The above verse doesn’t say that the law was done away with, but rather that the law for righteousness ended. Jesus said over and over, If you love me, keep my commandments—not to earn salvation, but rather to live a long, healthy, prosperous, godly life—to please God! If we are alive in Christ, we are dead to sin! This means we are no longer slaves to sin. We are free! We are free indeed!
“Jesus answered them, most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” ~John 8:34-36
