“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” ~Romans 12:2
We must desire the perfect will of God for our lives. Therefore, the real question should be, why was the Sabbath day changed and, who changed it?
Let’s start with a basic understanding of the days of the week and where they originated. God numbered the days at creation, the first day, the second day and so on. The Greeks then came along and decided to name the days after their planet gods; the first day was called Sun-day, after the Sun-god, the second day was called Monday, originally Moon-day, after their Moon-goddess, and so on.
So, with just this one little piece of history we can answer the question of who changed it, man . . . man changed it! And to this day most of us are still conforming to the ways of this pagan polluted world—the ways we were taught by our forefathers—the ways of man. Never did God ever tell man to name the days, let alone after a bunch of false gods and goddesses!
Many people still maintain God doesn’t care what day we worship Him on, just as long as we worship Him. However, the Bible is overflowing with verses that say the complete opposite. God seems to care so much that He spoke of this specific sanctified seventh-day since the dawn of creation.
“Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” ~Genesis 2:3
Sadly, most mainstream Christian religions have deviated from the word of God regarding this most important commandment. We must learn to use discernment in these matters, along with our only source of God's truth, the Holy Bible. Just as in the above verse, the Bible refers to not keeping God’s day holy as disobedience because it’s not just a suggestion, it’s a commandment! We are to obey His commandments always; nothing will ever change the word of God.
“Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always” ~Deuteronomy 11:1
The Holy Scriptures are our only source of absolute infallible truth. The word of God has been twisted and corrupted for thousands of years, so long that we have forgotten much of the truth. This is why God said to remember the Sabbath-day!
Satan has been very busy across the centuries rebutting every word. When God said to Eve, surely you will die, Satan said, surely you will not die—God said the seventh day/Saturday is His consecrated holy Sabbath, Satan says Sunday, the first day is just as good. God knew that Satan would corrupt His holy day, just as he knew he would corrupt everything else He had created. Satan can not create, so he re-creates and corrupts all that God has already created.
“Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” ~Isaiah 56:2
It seems that God will actually bless us for obeying Him regarding this most critical issue! So why is it so important to God? Why can’t I worship Him just as easily on Sunday? Does it really matter to God? God said to remember the true Sabbath because He knew it would be changed—He knew it would be replaced, and forgotten.
Why do most people keep Sunday holy…?
Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox Christians go to church on Sunday, treating it as the Lord’s Sabbath day instead of Saturday. Their reason, to honor the day Christ rose from the dead. But this is not Biblical; it is not in the Bible! Not any mention of the Sabbath changing from Saturday to Sunday because of the day that Christ rose. You can read the Bible from cover to cover, and you won't find it because it's not there!
”He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and laws . . .” ~Daniel 7:25
What was intended to be changed? What are times and laws? Let’s take a more in-depth look at these two specific things. First off, the changing of the times is the fact that we now use Pagan time instead of God’s time. Our days change from one day to the next as of midnight, rather than at sunset, the way God had originally mandated. And secondly, the changing of the laws is a reference to God’s laws, better known as “The Ten Commandments.” In the fourth commandment, God said to keep the seventh day Sabbath holy, but that was also changed to the Pagan first day sabbath—Sunday!
Who changed Sabbath to Sunday…?
We must look at a little more history to answer this question accurately. There was a guy named Constantine, he was the emperor of Rome approximately 300 years after the crucifixion of Christ. Constantine declared religious tolerance for Christianity in Rome in-order to combine church and state, then proclaimed himself to be head of this church!
The Roman-Catholic Church was the ultimate outcome of this merging. The Papal claim to power in the middle ages would become the final word regarding all laws; and in so doing many of the Bible truths were cast to the ground. The Church of Rome continued to grow in popularity because of the compromising of Christian beliefs, and would also prosper as well due to the multitude of Pagan converts.
“He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered.” ~Daniel 8:11-12
This Papacy government would go on to change much of the original Christian doctrine to accommodate Pagan beliefs. The Sabbath day was one of these changes. The seventh day Sabbath (Saturday) was replaced with the Pagan holy-day of worship, (Sunday), the day of their Sun-god.
Worship of the Sun originated in Egypt, where it was believed that the Sun was the manifestation of God. The Roman emperor, Constantine, (himself a former sun-worshiper), would go on to proclaim this Sabbath change as the law, therefore intending to change God’s laws!
“Her priests have violated My law and profaned My holy things; they have not distinguished between the holy and unholy, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they have hidden their eyes from My Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.” ~Ezekiel 22:26
Bottom line, who will you obey, man or God? This war against God’s law began in heaven and will continue until Jesus returns. We will all have to eventually choose between the law of God, and the law of man. Who will you serve, will you worship in the name of Rome or the name of Jesus?
"...Choose ye this day who you will serve....but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." ~Joshua 24:15
