Focus on God

Are thoughts actually prayers?

“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.”   ~Proverbs 4:23 GNT

Thoughts are things, or at least become things. So, of course, our thoughts will eventually become our prayers. The thoughts we are having will determine the prayers we are praying.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."   ~Proverbs 4:23 NIV

The real question needs to be, who are you listening to? Who’s feeding your thoughts? When we’re in contact with God we see things differently, we lose the anger and judgment, but when we listen to Satan, we feel a sense of rage and injustice. The very moment we feel these negative feelings we need to recognize his handy-work and run back to the Lord! If we just hold to the word of God ,we can easily overcome the devil’s evil persuasions.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”   ~James 4:7

There is an old saying, “Evil to him who evil he thinks.” What we get in our life is largely determined by what we are thinking. We are living magnets. What we attract into our lives is in harmony with our dominant thoughts. Our thoughts are the seeds of our prayers, and our words are the product of our thoughts. Therefore our prayers are always influenced by our thoughts in one way or another.

We get to choose our thoughts, good or bad, happy or sad. We get to decide whether we will dwell on problems and allow fear to create worry in us, or focus our energy on thinking faith-filled thoughts of hopeful outcomes. The choice is ultimately ours. We must train ourselves to turn to God the minute anything unexpected happens—turn to Him to increase our faith and fill us with hope the very second Satan tries to seduce us.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”   ~Philippians 4:8

Meditate on is just another way of saying think about. God is telling us to think only about what is good, and in so doing we will be at peace. The moment we start to worry and think about all the bad stuff, we are inviting more of the same into our lives. By thinking the worst, we feed the worry, and will then speak these fear thoughts into our reality.

Bottom line…our thoughts actually do become our prayers because what we dwell on will eventually materialize, both good and bad! Our thoughts will lead to the words we speak, which will intern influence our actions, which will then become our character; the substance our heart. God refers to our mind as our heart in the Bible because the thoughts in our minds are what creates the character of our hearts.

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”   ~Luke 6:45 ESV

Will I always find what I seek…?

It’s no coinkydink that my sickly friends seem to do nothing but talk and text about their illness—my depressed friends about their heartache. You will always find what you are looking for!

Try talking about a few of your blessings rather than promoting all the drama, and just see what happens.

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”   ~Luke 11:9-10

The thoughts you think become the words you speak, and the words you speak become the house you live in. So, give it all up to God, devote yourself to His ways, His words, and His works—and good thoughts will then be established!

“Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.”   ~Proverbs 16:3

What are you focusing on? What are you manifesting into your life—good or bad? Don’t focus on your problems, don’t get caught in the devil's negativity loop! The more you complain about your problems, the more problems you will have. But…the more you praise God for the good in your life, the more good stuff you will begin to see! Get caught in God's blessing loop instead!

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”   ~ 2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

You might say that I was a rather late spiritual bloomer, tripping my way into the Lord's arms not all that long ago. Nevertheless, I've been on the fast track ever since through a decade of Bible study courses and daily devotion. Changing careers a few years back and becoming a published author of Christian motivational books, leading to spiritual children's books and now this blog.
