How can I totally trust God?

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You."   ~Psalm 9:9-10

I’m the worst when it comes to losing faith when the problem storms hit. I just hate being blindsided, you know when things happen that we didn’t expect—the car crash, the heart attack, the sudden events that pop out of thin air—the things that we not only didn’t plan on but didn’t even consider.

The truth is I trust God when everything is going smoothly, but then when the problems suddenly drop in my lap, I fall apart. It seems when these unexpected life events happen I immediately listen to the fear-laced words of that lying antagonist, Satan, rather than the infallible word of God! And then, when the storm has passed, and everything works out for the best, I always vow to never react this way ever again—that is until the very next catastrophe hits!

How can we stop doubting God? How can we ever have enough faith so Satan can no longer trick us into listening to fear? The only answer is . . . prayer! We must immediately turn to God. The very moment these life-storms hit, we must run to God. It seems the speed in which we turn to our Creator is the secret to resisting fear. If we give the devil so much as one glance, we are smitten—if we listen to one fear coated thought, we are trapped! When storms of life come, fear will never solve the problem—only faith in Jesus and knowledge of His word will.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”   ~2 Timothy 1:7

The word of God is the only remedy to Satan’s lies. We must learn to pray, and then open the Bible and drink in the word of God antidote to become empowered to resist the devil’s deceptions.

Jesus Himself is a great example of using the power filled word of God as a weapon against Satan. In all of His conflicts with Satan, our Savior left us an example of how to use “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” ~Ephesians 6:17. Every time Satan tried to coerce Jesus through temptation, the Lord relied on the written word of God—He quoted scripture and the enemy was unable to match its power, and fled.

”For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”   ~Hebrews 4:12

We need to remember to use this heavenly weapon against any attack from the devil, for both the little everyday problems as well as the big unexpected disasters of life. The word of God is our greatest comfort as well as our strongest weapon, that is if we just open the Bible and learn to arm ourselves with this power every day. There is enormous power in the word of God!

How can I totally trust God?

“Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. But He answered and said, It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”   ~Matthew 4:3-4

You might say that I was a rather late spiritual bloomer, tripping my way into the Lord's arms not all that long ago. Nevertheless, I've been on the fast track ever since through a decade of Bible study courses and daily devotion. Changing careers a few years back and becoming a published author of Christian motivational books, leading to spiritual children's books and now this blog.
