“And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”   ~2 Timothy 3:15-17

So, why do I need the Bible anyway? How can I know it’s all true? These questions are pretty much where I started my journey to finding the truth. And to be honest, I was more on a mission to dispel the Bible than prove it to be true. My plan was to find a bunch of contradictions and untruths. I figured that’s all I would need to drop the entire issue once and for all. But, to my utter shock, not only couldn't I find any, I discovered the polar opposite to be true. This book fits together like a well-planned puzzle, one verse confirming another—overlapping from Old Testament to New Testament in a mysterious multi-leveled cohesion.

​“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”   ~Isaiah 28:10

The more time I spent looking for falsehood, the more I found truth. My primary argument was that the Bible was written by men, and men are not infallible. Then I uncovered this fact, it was not authored by men, it was penned by men—it was authored/dictated by God. Man was nothing more than God’s secretary. This was a massive breakthrough—the first step into my acceptance of this book as the infallible holy word of God.

​“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”   ~John 1:1

It has been said that the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed, and the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. I would most definitely have to agree with this statement. The Old Testament points to the New Testament—to Jesus. It is a foreshadow of what was to come. Jesus is the sacrificial Lamb of God. He is the physical fulfillment of the promise of salvation.

​“But He answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”   ~Matthew 4:4

We must accept the Bible as the true infallible word of God. We must go all in, we must ask the Holy Spirit to lead us and open our eyes to see and understand what we read. How can we ever know the character of God if we don’t read and study His word? How can we ever discern lies if we don’t fully understand the truth?

“For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”   ~2 Peter 1:21

It has taken me a very long time to arrive at a place that I feel comfortable in the knowledge that I have. I’m finally to a state of understanding that I can truly discern fact from fiction—myth from truth. It’s imperative that we know the truth from the Bible, the only reliable source of truth, so we can see through the false teachings and myths of man. If we don’t have the knowledge of the truth of God, how can we ever discern the lies of man? Bottom line: if you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything.

It doesn’t matter how little you know about the character of God, you will always know more than someone else. This is where you have a responsibility to share your knowledge. When you meet someone that’s struggling with an issue that you already understand, share your knowledge with them. Sharing the gospel is our duty as children of God. It was the very last duty Jesus gave to His disciples before He died, it’s better known as the Great Commission!

​“And He said to them, go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”   ~Mark 16:15

The word of God is our true North, it’s the litmus test that reveals truth from deception. If anything does not line up with the word of God, it is not of God. The only way we can keep from being led astray by false teachings is by knowing the truth from the Bible.

​“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God.”   ~1 John 4:12
