"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." ~Luke 12:34
Whatever we focus our attention on is who or what we serve. Who we serve is what we think about, our predominant thoughts! Our hearts will always be where our primary focus is, so you better keep your eyes on Jesus. God has a plan for every one of us, but how can we ever know what God wants for us if we don’t read His word? Or worse yet, if we’re being taught a very altered version of His truth.
Which altered version are you serving? Do you even know what the word of God actually says? Have you ever read a somewhat pure version of the Bible, as in The King James or New King James Version?
The perversion of God’s word is Satan’s focus. He has spent thousands of years gradually pulling generation after generation away from the truth by slowly deviating away from it. Every new rewrite is becoming more and more corrupted. I call it the slow fade-away from the truth.
These deviations from the word of God are so subtle and gradual that nearly no one has noticed. We accept behaviors these days that would have shocked previous generations. Every passing generation is exposed to more and more of what society deems normal or acceptable behaviors.
Humanity has become so corrupted by sin that it’s nearly impossible to even notice anymore because we’ve grown so numb to the truth. People would rather dis God than give up any of their so-called freedom or fun. The time has come that we must start thinking for ourselves rather than following wrong teachings just because our parents did or society endorses it.
“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” ~Joshua 24:15
We are so far removed from God’s original plan for us, that most of us are completely unaware of how lost we actually are. Every generation becomes a little more desensitized to the degeneration of God’s laws. What was once understood as sinful is now accepted as natural and even blessed. That is . . . unless you know the truth of the word of God. Knowing God’s word is the only barometer we have against Satan’s deceptions—the only litmus to the absolute truth.
“And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” ~Mark 7:7-9
Will you follow Jesus?
I’ve been a leader my whole life. I’ve never had any interest in following anyone. I was always the one to make my own rules and chart my own course, and I’ve always had a problem with surrender. Before I knew God I was my own boss. I made my own way and I especially didn't want to surrender my will over to an invisible God. I was afraid that if I surrendered to Him, I would no longer have the freedom of choice—I’d have to live my life at the mercy of an invisible, merciless deity.
But to my surprise, not only do I get to keep my free-will, this God we serve is so chock-full of mercy that His will for me far exceeds any of my self-willed desires. This mercy-filled Creator God loves me so much that He chose to die a physical death so that I can spend eternity with Him!
Are we subconsciously serving self? Probably so because it is our natural, carnal desire to be focused on self—on what we want and when we want it—we are, by our fallen, sinful nature, a self-centered, self-consumed, selfish species. But living solely for self will lead only to dissatisfaction and ultimately self-destruction.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” ~Matthew 6:24
Mammon is a word that refers to greedy material wealth—the grand things of this world. We need to understand that everything of this world will one day vanish! Greed and worry aren’t the secrets to success . . . finding God’s will is.
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” ~Matthew 6:25
I spent the majority of my life trying to accumulate great wealth. I was driven, very, very driven, but unfortunately, I was driven by greed. All of my work was to improve my own lifestyle—to fulfill my own desire for materialism and personal gain. Never once did I check in with God—never once did I seek His guidance or consider my greedy ways. All I did was work myself into exhaustion for nothing. It was literally like putting my hard earned money in a bag with holes. No matter what I did, I couldn’t prosper.
“Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” ~Haggai 1:5-9
If only I would have considered my ways—had my eyes on God’s word and my heart on serving Him rather than the things of this world. I was so focused on this physical world and all that it holds, that there was no room in my life for Jesus.
We must start to use our spiritual minds-eyes instead of our physical minds. There is a great spiritual battle going on. This is the Lord’s battle, it’s between Jesus and Satan, and every time we try to help God by forcing things, we do nothing but get in His way.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” ~Ephesians 6:12
God leads us through a whole bunch of different ways, and opening and closing doors is one of these ways. If we try to do something and it doesn't work, we must stop trying to force it and simply try another way. This has been a huge lesson for me. I’ve finally learned that my way just might not necessarily be the best way.
If we truly want to obey God, sometimes the best thing we can do is lay our agenda down and submit to His. We need to learn how to walk away from the things and people we can’t fix, and pray for God’s intervention in all of these situations. Then have faith in the knowledge that He will intervene on our behalf.
I’ve wasted the majority of my life trying to force my agenda. I’ve spent years trying to do things my way. The problem with this technique is it doesn't work!
Accepting what is and what is not my job is the very first step to understanding what’s not meant for me. God already has a plan, a really great plan, and all I need to do is surrender to His plan over my own.
We continue to ask the same questions over and over. Why are we born? Why did God create us? But until we submerge ourselves in His word we will never understand the simple answer—to obey His word and share His love. For what is the chief end of man, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. So, the final conclusion of why we exist is . . .
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.” ~Ecclesiastes 12:13
God had led me away from many things that were not my responsibility, and directed me to find His will for my life. This blog is at the top of the list. It is the greatest honor to actually find my place as a servant of the Most High God. Doing whatever God prompts you to do in order to help spread the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is performing your own personal service to God.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ~Matthew 6:19-21
Abandoning our own self-will and embracing His divine will isn’t something that comes naturally to any of us. But once we fail enough times trying to force our own agenda it gets much easier, I can attest to that. I now see that His plan for my life far exceeds any plan I could have ever imagined.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” ~Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV

Thank you for this blog. I know I am on the right road to following Gods will but I let to much of the world get on my agenda. I want to fully surrender but it seems so hard.
You are right, it is so very hard! All I can tell you is…once you do fully surrender you will realise how much Devine connection you’ve been missing out on! Unfortunately we will continue to try on our own, and will continue to fall… but God will always pick us up, dust us off and help us to get back inline with His perfect will for for life! Thank you for your comment and hang in there…it’s a very long journey my friend.
